When is the last time you had a chance to break free and relive your favorite childhood activities?

Pause. Think about it.

If your mind is blank, don't beat yourself up. Pamela Robinson has the perfect solution: Double Dutch!

However, there is a caveat: You have to be a woman over 40 to participate.

In 2016, Robinson came up with the idea for 40+ Double Dutch Club while at a BBQ. She grabbed her jump rope out of her car and attracted the attention of former childhood Double Dutchers who were ready to test out their skills again.

For the first time in years, Robinson was able to smile again without the pressures of life.

As she moved to the rhythm of the rope, she brushed away thoughts of her crumbling marriage and soon-to-be life as an empty nester.

Up until that moment, her every thought had been consumed by her marriage, kids, and household as a stay-at-home wife. Now her life was moving at an unexpected pace and she didn't know what direction God wanted her to go in.

“I was going through a difficult period in my personal life and wanted to find something to smile about," says Robinson. "God turned my pain into purpose. Now, I can give other women what I needed during that time in my life. Women can come out and get a break from adulting. Most women can’t tell you the last time they went out to play with friends."

An instrumental person in Robinson's life during that time was 40+ Double Dutch co-founder Catrina Dyer-Taylor. She was Robinson's "ride or die" friend of over 20 years and was the first person Robinson pitched the Double Dutch club idea to.

Without hesitation, Dyer-Taylor agreed to start the 40+ Double Dutch Club with Robinson -- even if no one else was on board with the idea.

What started as a stress-relieving activity on Chicago's South Side has expanded into a nationwide movement with over 20,000 members.

"It’s more than just Double Dutch," says Robinson. "This movement has turned into sisterhood. We’re doing all the things we did when we were growing up. We end every single meet-up in a circle prayer. Our motto is no sister left behind. You don’t even have to be able to Double Dutch to join us."

She adds, "Any woman over 40 is welcome to come out regardless of skill level and size. The oldest women in the club are in their 80s. Our clubs are all about helping women to improve their physical, mental, and spiritual health."

Robinson and Dyer-Taylor's 40+ Double Dutch movement took off when their club was featured on Windy City Live. After the interview was posted on social media, the 40+ Double Dutch Club grew from 50 local women in the Chicagoland area to over 1,000 women around the world in less than a week.

As more women expressed interest in starting clubs in their areas, Robinson and Dyer-Taylor began to expand their vision of what the 40+ Double Dutch Club could be. They developed a structured orientation and provided resources to help other women start clubs in their areas.

Now, the 40+ Double Dutch Club is positively impacting the lives of women all over the world and providing a safe space where women can play and reconnect with their inner child.

Are you ready to start moving towards your self-care goals with a group of supportive faith-based women?

Head on over to the 40+ Double Dutch Club Facebook Group. Make sure you answer the membership questions. As long as you are a woman over 40, you will be admitted into the group.

There are clubs that meet up every day of the week so you'll never have to go a day without your Double Dutch companion.
