The United Neighbors of Prairie (UNoP) Block Club will host the 2nd Annual Prairie Lights Bronzeville Holiday Experience on Saturday, December 11. Festivities will take place at 3500 & 3600 S. Prairie Ave from 5-9 PM.

UNoP Block Club invites family and friends to come together to see the beautiful historic homes all decorated in holiday lights. The Bronzeville Holiday Experience is free. Walk the sidewalks of Bronzeville and get into the holiday spirit with your neighbors.

"You see a lot of [holiday activities] on the North Side and West Loop, but you never really see people coming to the South Side to see the beauty of what's happening in Bronzeville," says Tanya Griggs, President of UNoP and creator of Prairie Lights. "I went to a holiday light experience at Lincoln Park Zoo and thought to myself, 'Why can't we do a Prairie Lights experience?'

Griggs shared her ideas and other community residents were excited to support the event. She started a private Bronzeville Facebook Group and developed a support network of individuals who wanted to invest in the community.

"We had over 250 people, including a Lieutenant Senate governor, come out last year," says Griggs. "I couldn't have done this alone. We have a very good Board that is executing every single day to make this community and block better.

The UNoP Holiday Lights committee has been planning all year to ensure that Prairie Lights will be bigger and better this year. There will be an African American Santa who will be available to take pictures with the kids. Hot chocolate stands will be stationed on each end of the block. Free popcorn will be available. Neighborhood parents will dress up as elves and hand out candy to people who come on the block. You may even see a couple food trucks lined up at the end of the block.

Prairie Lights will also feature holiday music from three DJs to ignite the holiday spirit. You'll also hear the Bronzeville Girl Scouts caroling on the block.

Are you ready for a friendly holiday competition? UNoP is also hosting a house decoration competition on the block. A group of judges will give an award to the "Most Decorated Home."

Don't miss out on this free event. Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 11 from 5-9PM.
