These opportunities will help you grow your network, so that you can build your net worth in 2022.

It's a new year, and it's time to take more action towards achieving our career and income goals. The more opportunities we can create, the faster we can bring more wealth back into our community. If you're trying to start 2022 with a bang, here are 23 ideas to help you kick off the New Year.

The latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reveals that 199,000 new jobs were added in December. Chicago Southsider scoured the internet and found 27 companies hiring writers this month. If you want to spruce up your resume to attract more opportunities, we've created a list of over 30 free certification trainings that can help you stand out.

I also added insights that helped me earn six figures as a writer in 2021, and am excited to share tips and tricks throughout the year. According to Upwork's (Nasdaq: UPWK) Freelance Forward: 2021 study, more than one-third of the entire U.S. workforce (59 million Americans) is taking advantage of the freelance economy. Over the last year, freelancers contributed $1.3 trillion to the U.S. economy.

Chicago Southsider will release more job insights throughout the year to reach our goal of economic development and prosperity on Chicago's South Side. Become an annual subscriber to unlock more opportunities and insights. You'll gain access to the following guides:

Chicago Southsider is on a mission to provide more data and resources that will help more residents earn their first $100,000 from their career or business in 2022.

According to FRED, the real median personal income in the U.S. in 2020 was $35,805/year. The BLS reported median weekly earnings across all ages, races, and both genders was $1,001 as of Q3 2021. That translates into just over $52,000 for the year.

In Chicago, the median household income in 2019 dollars was $58,247, according to census.gov. However, the household income for zip codes occupied by predominantly Black residents on Chicago's South Side was nearly half of that.

Since we launched the Chicago Southsider in August, we've been on a mission to spread resources that would elevate the wealth potential of residents on Chicago's South Side. We've highlighted many emerging and experienced entrepreneurs on the South Side of Chicago. We've also been able to generate more revenue for local businesses and bring more wealth back into our community. In 2022, we are going all the way and helping our community in new ways.

Here are some goals we aim to accomplish:

  • Train and hire more individuals on the South Side of Chicago

  • Provide internship opportunities for students seeking to build their resume and learn digital skills

  • Showcase more entrepreneurs and small businesses on the South Side of Chicago

  • Develop guides that showcase the best of Chicago's South Side

  • Share more job opportunities and resources that will allow us to reinvest in our community

  • Go behind the scenes and memorialize the history of Chicago's South Side

Our goal is to transform the narrative of Chicago's South Side and bring wealth back into our community. Can you help us make this vision a reality? You can become an annual subscriber. This will help us build a sustainable platform and allow us to hire more people committed to rebuilding our community. Stay tuned for our Black History Month special that we are launching in February!

If you want to earn six figures, ask yourself these questions:

  • What six-figure skills do I have? What skills are in high demand right now?

  • How can I enhance my skills to become a match for what I seek?

  • What organizations and networking groups can help me achieve my goals?

  • How can I build a six-figure business or attract valuable career opportunities?

  • How many people in my network are six or seven figure entrepreneurs and career leaders? How can I develop a network that reflects my goals and ambitions?

Keep these questions in mind as you develop your 2022 action plan.
